Segway is well known for its self-balancing micro-mobility commuters but now they are expanding their claws into the e-bike segment too. At Consumer Electronics Show 2025 the company introduced two new e-bikes that are up for pre-order right away with deliveries expected in February. Christened the Xyber and the Xafari, both electric bikes designed to elevate the riding experience with safer, more convenient, and accessible features.

The bikes will come loaded with the Segway Intelligent Ride System and a range of smart tech and features. They’ll automatically shut down AirLock tech in case of theft, and the intelligent lighting system and even fitness data will be synchronized to the accompanying app. Also, the IOT features for remotely controlling the bikes, over-the-air updates and an automatic brightness adjustable TFT display make them a futureproof option.

Designer: Segway

Xyber is the beefier of the duo with design and performance aesthetics fit for the Cyberpunk universe. The e-bike comes with a 6,000-watt direct-drive motor system touting 175 Nm torque that makes it go from zero to 20 mph in a mere 2.7 seconds. The top speed of 35 mph makes it ideal for riders who crave a lasting adrenalin rush from an e-bike. The motocross-styled bike is going to be as good for dirt trails as it will be for the city thanks to the multi-surface 20 x 5.0-inch rugged terrain tires that are secured against any punctures courtesy of the flat-resistant inserts.

Segway brings the two-wheeler with an optional 2,880Wh dual battery for a range of 112 miles or a single battery that can tick 56 miles on a single charge. In case you run out of battery power there are pedals with 12 levels of assist. The version showcased at the event is in the unclassified segment (not street legal) but the buyable version coming later in spring/early summer 2025 will conform to Class-2 mandates. Xyber will be available in three drive modes – Eco, Sport, and Race – for a price tag of $3,000.

The Xafari is a little toned-down model for urban use with classic cruiser vibes, make no mistake, it still can traverse inhospitable terrain like its big brother. This e-bike comes with an adjustable 2.5 TFT display, seat height, stem, and handlebar for every rider’s comfort, no matter how tall or short they are. It rides on 26 x 3-inch tires and has an adjustable preload suspension with compression dampening and lockout on the fork.

The bike goes from zero to 20 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds which is good enough for city traffic. Xafari gets a removable 936 Kw battery that can be charged at home and on full charge it has a range of 88 miles. City errands are going to be a breeze with the rear-mounted rack and in-frame hardshell. There are also softshell bags for storing groceries or anything else on the go. Xafari coming in three drive settings will have pedal assist and throttle mode only. It is priced at $2,400, with availability set around the same time as Xyber.

]]>

There was a time when we were told that the future of deliveries would be made by robots, both flying or rolling. That dream proved to be a little too impractical and not secure to be considered a sustainable model, especially after a few mishaps that befell these unsuspecting machines. That’s not to say that they can’t become a more common sight in the distant future, leaving plenty of opportunities to refine the design of these robots.

Having small robots carrying packages on the street might sound cute until you think about how a fleet of such autonomous machines might seem like a waste of space on roads if that’s the only thing they can do. This concept design tries to add a new angle to this idea, offering a multi-functional robot that can follow you around, deliver your packages, and even transport you to your destination.

Designers: Chaewon Lee, Jungmin Park

The idea of a delivery robot is both interesting and worrying, providing a little more efficiency but also raising the stakes both for the security of the package as well as the human couriers they will replace. A robotic storage device that follows you around or hands off items to colleagues on the same floor, however, might be a little less daunting, offering convenience without that big of a risk. Even better if this robot can actually do chores for you, including making purchases on your behalf.

movr is a concept for such a robot, but it goes beyond simply carrying stuff. At first glance, it actually looks odd for a delivery robot and looks more like a three-wheeled mobile trash can. Its side slides open to reveal a small compartment for a phone, drink holders, envelopes, and any other thing you need to be transported. Almost like a ride-hailing service, movr has an app that can let you send packages or pick some up, depending on the task you need to accomplish.

Its real magic, however, is in what the robot can do when it’s not transporting objects. movr can also move people around, or at most one person, by transforming into a personal mobility device. Its front extends from its body and the scooter’s handles slide up from the front. The robot’s body then becomes the seat for the lone passenger, carrying the user as well as some of their things from one place to another.

movr is an interesting concept, though it isn’t something that can be easily implemented. Stability, battery life, speed, and intelligence will all be critical factors to consider, and they’re not something that can be easily crammed into a compact design like this. Transforming robots and vehicles, however, has long been a dream of many engineers and designers, so there might come a time in the distant future when movr transforms from idea to reality.

If you’ve ever used a CASETiFY case on your phone, you know that it has some pretty great features that can both personalize and protect your phone. There are so many designs that you can choose from to match your style or your preference. And when it falls or you drop it, its Bounce Technology protects your device. So it was probably only a matter of time until they expanded their product line.

Designer: CASETiFY Travel

We’ve heard news before that they will soon be releasing a luggage line and now that day is almost here. CASETiFY Travel is their first made-to-order luggage collection and everything you loved about the phone case will also be found here plus a lot of other features that will ensure your luggage is protected and also will hopefully not be mixed with other suitcases in the airport.

The Carry On Roller is the first in the product line made from an ultra-lightweight polycarbonate shell, ball-bearing wheels by Hinomoto and Bounce Bumpers on every corner so it protects it just like your CASETiFY phone case protected your smartphone. It also has aircraft-grade aluminum telescoping handle, puncture-resistant, and of course an AirTag pocket to put your tracker in.

You’ll still be able to customize it with their on-demand printing service so you can fully customize your suitcase. You can choose from two typography systems: Dot Font (choise of 11 colors each letter) and the Skyline Font (palettes from neutrals to pastels). No news yet when they will start accepting made-to-order on their online store so we’ll watch that space. Hopefully it’s during the holidays since this will make a good gift.

]]>

I am one of the estimated 50% of the world population that don’t know how to ride a bike and have no desire to actually learn how. But there’s one kind that I do know how to ride and given the chance, I’d probably willingly get on one: the sidecar. I can’t balance on two wheels but add a sidecar and another wheel to the equation, then yes, I can actually “drive” it. And if it’s an electric bike, then it also adds to the appeal.

Designer: Mod Bikes

The Mod Easy SideCar Sahara electric bike is something that may appeal to people like me or regular bike riders who want to get on this retro-looking thing that looks like a prop bike from Mad Max Fury Road. The design inspiration for the limited edition ebike is actually the BMW R75 Sahara motorcycle from the World War II era or the 1940s. But of course it has more bells and whistles given that it’s an electric bicycle.

The front wheel has a moto-style dual-crown suspension while the custom-made sidecar has dual headlights, an extended frame, and a cargo rack at the rear. And if your companion on the sidecar is a pet, it even has a built-in doggie door, which should work for pets and humans alike. There’s also a padded seat and a seatbelt for safety. As an ebike, it is equipped with a 750-W rear-hub motor plus give levels of programmable pedal-assist. It also has a responsive torque sensor and a thumb throttle.

The bike also has wide-beam LED headlight so you can be visible while driving around even when it’s dark already. There’s also a braking tail-light to add to the safety features. And if you want more control over the synched turn signaling and brake lighting, you can pair it with a Lumos smart helmet.

Odd backpack is designed for carrying spare bicycle tires and large objects

]]>

It’s pretty amazing how much stuff we can cram into our backpacks, from laptops to 2-liter water bottles to a bundle of chargers and cables. Of course, these are objects that were designed to be small enough to fit in bags in the first place, so that’s not exactly out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, we sometimes need to carry things larger than the largest backpacks in the market.

This bag might be designed for bicycle racing, but it can definitely do more than just carry spare wheels for an emergency. Its literally open design actually offers a bit more wiggle room that will let you carry large or odd-shaped items without breaking a sweat. Unless, of course, they’re actually too heavy to carry on your back.

Designer: Fernando A. Robert

We often think of bags as enclosed containers with a single opening, but there really isn’t a formal definition of a bag’s design. This “Bike Backpack” might look like a regular backpack from the front, but its open sides definitely break the stereotype. Then again, the idea of carrying a bicycle wheel or a large box is itself already unconventional.

The Sherman Bike Backpack has a tri-fold design that opens vertically like a flap. The idea is that you stuff things that are too large or too wide for regular bags in between the flaps, letting the sides extend beyond the bag’s confines. Alternatively, you can also hang something outside and secure it with straps.

This is how you can carry one or two bicycle wheels that are thin and light enough to put on your back while cycling or racing. Of course, boxes, drawing boards, blueprint tubes, and other large objects are also fair game, as long as you secure them properly with straps. It definitely makes for an odd sight, but your comfort and convenience definitely outweigh any awkwardness.

The backpack also has compartments for carrying regular stuff, and you might be able to use it for carrying laptops, tools, or even clothes. That said, it isn’t the ideal backpack for all weather conditions, since the open sides make it very vulnerable to water, snow, and even dust.

]]>

I live in a city that has a steadily growing motorcycle population. We also get a lot of rainy seasons and storms visit our country on a regular basis. The combination of rain and driving a motorcycle is a pretty dangerous one. While there are water repellent sprays available but it won’t work when you’re driving at slower and regular speeds.

Designer: Boscard group

Bikerguard was invented by two Slovenian engineers and is something you can attack to motorcycle helmet visors to make sure you still have visibility even if it’s raining hard. It’s basically a detachable and remote-controlled wiper blade that will wipe off the rain water that can obstruct the view of the riders. It has a brushless motor that will reduce the need for manual wiping of your visor.

The bikerguard unit has a rugged and IPX-6 waterproof design and when fully charged, you get 5 to 15 hours of continuous use. You screw the mounting base through the top of your visor on first use but after that you can just attach and re-attach the wiper when you need it. The remote wireless controller can be attached to any motorcycle handlebar so you can easily turn the wiper on and off.

While of course you can just use the normal sprays and coatings that is readily available for most motorcycle riders, using “good old physics” or wipers are still the best way to go about riding in the rain. It costs around $330 and is available on the Bikerguard website.

Fully-electric CityAirbus NextGen eVTOL makes pilotless take-off debut in Germany

]]>

On the road to a future of aircrafts that consume lesser fuel, are low maintenance, and have no carbon emissions; electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles will play a significant role. Such aircrafts are in their infancy as of now, so the news of an eVTOL making its take-off debut in Germany is a big milestone.

The CityAirbus NextGen eVTOL which has begun its official flight test campaign in Donauwörth, Germany, made the first remarkable unmanned lift-off around November 6, 2024, at the said Airbus facility. Unveiled in March 2024, this fully-electric eVTOL is part of Airbus Helicopters Advanced Air Mobility mission to produce eVTOL personal air vehicles alongside, UTM services, and vertiports.

Desginer: Airbus CityAirbus

The news about the flight test and the debut take-off of the NextGen eVTOL was announced via X by Airbus Helicopters’ Bruno Even. In his post, the CEO wrote, “I’m happy to share that the #CityAirbus NextGen flight test campaign in Donauwörth, Germany has started with a first lift-off. A big thank you to all our teams who have contributed to this important step in the marathon that is Advanced Air Mobility.”

The eVTOL features a large 12-meter wingspan, the wings are fixed and its tail has a distinct V shape. The four-seater electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle prototype – with the seating capacity of one pilot and three passengers with their luggage – can cruise 80 km on a single charge at the speed of 120 kmph.

The aircraft is made from carbon fiber composite material that makes it robust and lightweight. It is propelled by eight electric-powered propellers as part of its distributed propulsion system, which along with other features would ensure it is not only used for private and commercial flying (as a heli taxi) but would also assist in medical use cases and the promotion of eco-tourism. Airbus suggests this is the first eVTOL in a series of prototype aircrafts the company intends to produce. With the advancement of battery density, such aircrafts would surely have a longer range and become a common sight over sprawling cities.
